Review: Sealed with a Kiss by Rachael Lucas

Elephant Seal ScratchThis novel could not have been released at a better time. I’m on a bit of a relaxing, light read mission at the moment ( in between Classics Club tomes) and when the author announced the release of her debut novel on her blog, I bought it immediately. I figured the blog is a really great read then her novel would definitely be so too right? Definitely!

Here’s a quick summary:

Kate breathes a sigh of relief when she’s dumped at her best friend’s wedding. Faced with moving back home, she takes a job with a cottage on the remote island of Auchenmor.

Kate’s told Auchenmor is too small for secrets, but prickly new boss Roderick is keeping something to himself. When his ex-girlfriend comes back on the scene, their budding friendship comes to an abrupt end – and Kate finds out Fiona’s got a sinister motive for coming back to the island she hates.

Can she be stopped before it’s too late, and will the island find its way into Kate’s heart?

Pure unadulterated chick-lit of the highest order. This novel does exactly what it says on the tin with the added bonus of an author who can write in a witty, enjoyable and captivating way. Every character comes alive through their descriptions and each one almost deserves a novel in their own right. I’d love a prequel with more info on Morag’s back story please!

The plot follows the path any reader would want with the added glory of beautiful descriptions of this rural Scottish island that Kate has come to love so well. The people clearly make the island and the characters made this novel for me.

The title is a bit of a pun as there are actual seals (hence the photo above – I’m not just mad) in the novel which add a quirky edge as well as making the atmospheric descriptions of the rocky Scottish coast even more vivid. I of course fell in love with Flora the seal pup as soon as she was introduced – how could I not with my own Lottie Flora?

A fantastic debut that is more that worthy of a place amongst the top chick-lit novels out there

Thank you SO much for the review! I’m so glad you liked it – it’s quite terrifying releasing a novel into the wild and having to just cross fingers and hope. I am utterly enthralled by seals and spent a lovely day watching them when I visited the Island of Bute recently. Didn’t meet any handsome lairds looking for a girlfriend, mind you. Harrumph.

Hope the book continues to be a great success x
