I’ve decided to make more out of my children’s book reviews as I mentioned earlier and I thought this was a good time to hand over the reigns to the genuine reviewer in our midst – that big girl of mine. Our newest review is once again thanks to Emma from Book Angel Booktopia who sent us a huge pile of fantastic books to read. I’ll be titling these posts Little Reads just so they’re separate from my non-children’s reviews.
Twinkle, Twinkle, Squiglet Pig has become a firm favourite. The book tells the tale of a genuine creature who lives in the depths of the ocean and we follow him as he goes on a little adventure.
Each page sees my big girl shouting FISH FISH FISH more and more, I shall work on this so the Piglet Squid himself will be shouted from the rafters!
The smiley little Piglet Squid is easy to get attached to and that’s what makes the story so great. Piglet Squid is surrounded by sad and miserable deep sea companions so his journey begins as he’s determined to show them exactly how much there is to be happy about in the big wide ocean. It isn’t long before Piglet Squid finds himself in all manner of circumstances including the age old being swallowed by a bigger fish who is swallowed by an even BIGGER fish!
What I loved best about Twinkle, Twinkle Squiglet Pig was definitely the author’s choice not to shy away from long and difficult words (lugubrious anyone?) but my girl definitely loved the bit where Piglet Squid gets spat out into the sky. She also likes to sing along and do her very own unique actions to the tune of Twinkle, Twinkle.
The quality of this book is second to none and it’s one we’ll be revisiting time and again I’m sure.
